The title is deceptive, because it would lead you to believe that I either have a method of kickstarting my morning or that maybe I’m a morning person. Huh uh. Morning is not my friend. My routine, if you can call it that, is to wake up bleary eyed, check my watch then curse because, damn it, it’s already time to get up and get the kids ready for school.
I stumble around, daydreaming about getting to go back to bed. (this never happens so Im not sure why I waste my time torturing myself over it) Formerly, I’d drink a coke in the mornings. This was my "coffee" fix since I never developed a liking for motor oil, er uh I mean coffee. I can’t get past the smell. In recent years, however, I gave up cola all together, which means I had no caffeine fix in the A.M. (maybe that’s my problem)
Now I have an addiction, ok we’ll call it a strong LIKING, for juices in the A.M. Particularly orange or grape. And I’m picky about what kind. The grape MUST be welch’s and the OJ must be minute maid low pulp. Is there anything worse than taking a huge gulp of juice only to get a moutful of pulp?? If I wanted to eat the damn thing, I’d peel my own.
So, basically my morning so far has been a wake up ten minutes late. An agonizing roll out of bed. A trudge to the kids room to mumble for them to get up. Pack lunches, fix breakfast, make sure they have everything they need for school, drive them to their respective campuses, grumbling about dumbass drivers the entire way, return home, collapse into my writing chair with a big ole glass of OJ. Ahhhh, my one bright part of the morning.
So are you one of those disgusting morning people? You know the bright, chipper CHEERFUL sort? (My husband is, God help me) And are you a coffee, cola or juice person? Name your poison.

Maya,
I never developed a taste for coffee either ( I strongly oppose the smell, too), so my caffeine fix is a Diet Dr Pepper every single day - to the point that, in Atlanta, where I couldn’t get a DDP, my roommate flirted with the guy at the coffee bar so that he would bring me three cans to store i nmy room, making us promise not to tell
I hate hate hate mornings. Actually, I hate waking up. I, too, torture myself with fantasies about crawling back into bed once the kids are gone, but I never do it.

Morning person? You’re funny. I work till after midnight every night and would gladly sleep till 10am every day if I could!
I LOVE my Diet Coke, but I try to have a glass of water first. Try.

Well, I always liked the smell of coffee. The taste was never as good as the smell. But I taught myself to drink it. (I never did teach myself to drink beer, though.) I hate mornings, too. I start out with a large cup of coffee with half and half. Then I switch to tea, which I drink all day.
I’m just back from my Boston research trip, so I’m writing this post instead of working. And I spent some time outside watering the flowers and newly planted bushes and getting misquito bites on my ankles.
On the trip, I indulged in orange juice at breakfast.
Dh is a big juice man. I look at a glass of orange juice and think–that’s got the calories and carbs of five or six oranges. Sorry.

Nope. SO NOT a morning person here. Also, I never drink coffee or tea either. Okay , I drink teas when I’m sick. That’s it.
I’m a diet Coke or Diet Dr.Pepper girtl (as is the heroine in my third Berkley. She drinks “cold caffiene” LOL )
I’m not a juice fan either, but lately I’ve started drinking Crystal Lights. Raspberry to be specific. LOL

I take my coffee with enough sugar–or splenda since I’ve given up the real sweet stuff–and creamer to drowned out any bad tastes.
Actually, funny to read this post. My mornings have been getting later and later and my bedtimes moving into the am hours farther and farther. I sometimes lie down two hours before my hubby is getting up. My schedule is slowly turning itself inside out and it’s been that way since I was preggers. I just could sleep, and with the babies birth, I had to work at night. But okay already, she’s two and I need to be slightly normal.
So I’ve vowed to change my habits–starting tommorow. So, yuck yuck yuck, I’m looking forward to getting up prompty at seven. Yuck.

Nope, I’m not a morning person either Maya! If I wake up bubbly I know I’ve been out the night before and haven’t sobered up yet.

Hi Maya, Boy canI relate. I’m not a morning person either, sooo not a morning person that I walk into walls, grumble and hiss at my husband who IS one of those annoying morning persons. AND, like you, I gave up my morning beverage of choice–diet coke–when I retired from my day job to become a full time writer. So now my wake-up call consists of a bowl of fresh fruit and a diet smart vitamin pill with green tea extract and a dab of caffeine I’m told is good for you. I might just have to give juice a try. Happy Writing!

Oops, I forgot to say, I take tea first thing. The coffee drinking starts around 11 am.

Hi Maya, I’m checkin’ in late (under the gun on a story concept deadline!) Like Clare, the heroine who runs the Village Blend in my Coffeehouse Mysteries, I am a huge coffee drinker. I LOVE the stuff. Started drinking it in high school and my fave place to hang are the coffeehouses of New York City. SUCH great atmosphere and overheard converstations! I’ll drink the bean hot, cold, iced, and eat it as ice cream. I use it as a flavoring in recipes and marinade steak in it (no kidding, this is actually an old West tenderizing trick). I’m SO not a morning person, but I’m gamely trying to get more done earlier to prevent the end of the day let down that, yet again, I didn’t get MORE pages written. Ugh!
Luv,
