Is it too early to be talking about Christmas?

[Maya Banks] — Maya @ 9:36 am

I’m a nut about Christmas.  Every year, at the first HINT of cooler weather, I go into Christmas mode.  Never mind that Halloween and Thanksgiving are still to come, Im focused on Christmas trees, Christmas music (I LOVE Christmas music)  I start anticipating evenings in front of the fire place and just the warm fuzzy feeling that accompanies the holiday season.

As a child, I associated Thanksgiving with Christmas.  To me it was the kickoff to the holiday season.  They were extensions of each other.  Every single year on the DAY after Thanksgiving, rain or shine, the family trekked out to pick out the Christmas tree and we quickly put it up.  And the tree didn’t come down until after New Years Day.  It’s a tradition I’ve carried on into adulthood.  My husband knows, no matter what, we’re GOING to go get that tree the day after Thanksgiving emoticon

Christmas shopping?  I don’t love so much.  Honestly, I was positively orgasmic with the advent of online shopping.  OMG heaven!  Venturing out into the madness that is holiday shopping is the quickest way I know to lose that loving feeling.  But give me a computer and a credit card, and I am the epitome of obnoxious Christmas cheer.

So as much as I love December (my first child was born in December) it gives me the warm fuzzies that my first Berkley book releases in December (of 2007 that is hehe) but still, DECEMBER!  I can be a Christmas pressie!

Am I the only obnoxious Christmas lover?  This morning it was actually a balmy 58 degrees here in Texas, so of course people are breaking out the jackets *snicker* and me, I’m starting to hum Christmas songs.

  1. Maya,
I love Christmas, too! Although I usually start with the Autumn bug. Fall is my favorite time of year, so when the trees start to lose their leaves, I’m pulling out the winter clothes and looking forward to those cool, rainy days. Can you tell I’m from beautiful, rainy Washington?
And yes, you do have more to celebrate this Christmas with the release of your first Berkley release.

  3. I love Christmas! As soon as I see Santa in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade I get into the Christmas spirit. I watch the holidays movies and specials, play my Christmas CDs, decorate and count the days until Christmas Eve. My family has a tradition where stay up waiting for midnight, we gather around the tress and open the gifts. Of course the fact that my birthday is on Christmas Day adds to the uphoria of the season.

  4. Oh no, you are one of those!! While I love the enchantment of the holidays, I have turned into a scrooge when it comes to all the prep work. If I could just get my kids to take over the whole drag out the boxes and decorate thing, I would hunker down with my eggnog and a good book and enjoy the season oh so much more.

  5. I like Christmas, but I don’t like to start it early. I’m with you on the day after Thanksgiving being the kick off though. NOT for shopping. Gimme internet shopping any day. :)

  6. Honestly, I roll my eyes at how the stores are breaking out Christmas so early, but secretly I love it! Even if I tell myself not to get sucked in to all of the hype and commercialism, I can’t help it. It totally puts me in a festive mood — my only challenge is not to get carried away and start spending like crazy …

  7. I love Christmas! The cheer, the food, the camaraderie, and carolling, the tree….and all of those really neat toys. *sigh*

  8. I love Christmas too. By the way who does not love Christmas. We all enjoy the day remembering the Love of God shown to man in the form of his only begotten son born as a gift to mankind.
